Ahead of the primary festive period, millions of workforce members across the national rail network have received substantial financial cheer. The central government has decided to release a 78-day Productivity Linked Bonus for eligible non-gazetted railway employees prior to the Durga Puja and Dussehra holidays. Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet formally approved the initiative during its Wednesday sitting, directly benefiting roughly 11.4 lakh personnel stationed across various railway zones nationwide.
Cabinet Sanctions and Overall Financial Expenditure
Briefing the media on the key outcomes of the ministerial meeting, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that the initial resolution taken up by the cabinet focused directly on railway personnel welfare. A total of 11,40,770 eligible workers will receive the 78-day productivity incentive in recognition of their operational diligence. To execute this comprehensive payout across divisions, the government has set aside a dedicated financial allocation amounting to Rs 2,009.61 crore. This substantial outlay serves to honour ground-level operational contributions and reinforce sustained efficiency across the transit network.
Disbursement Calculation and Payout Ceiling Per Employee
Under the established computation standards, each qualified railway staff member will receive a maximum disbursement capped at Rs 17,951 for the 78-day duration. The productivity-linked formulation utilizes a monthly minimum wage threshold of Rs 7,000 as its primary calculation baseline. Applying this statutory framework to the 78-day window yields the maximum entitlement of Rs 17,951. Disbursed traditionally before the Durga Puja and Dussehra break, this incentive is designed to offer disposable funds for family holiday expenditures while motivating personnel to uphold strict operational quality throughout daily rail management.
Beneficiary Designations and Operational Benchmarks
The financial benefit spans critical ground-level and administrative cadres across the network. Eligible positions include track maintainers, loco pilots, train managers or guards, station masters, supervisors, technicians, technician helpers, pointsmen, ministerial staff, and various other Group 'C' employees. This financial sanction acknowledges notable operational metrics logged during the 2025-26 annual cycle, during which the railway infrastructure carried a record freight volume of 1,670 million tonnes of cargo loading alongside transporting roughly 7.41 billion passengers across the country.
