Accessing provident fund account details has become substantially easier for millions of formal sector employees across the country. In a major digital outreach effort, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation has rolled out a dedicated WhatsApp service designed to deliver essential account information directly to smartphones. Subscribers are no longer required to navigate and log into the official web portal simply to check their accumulated savings, as a quick message through the popular communication platform will now display their current balance immediately.
Official Launch at 74th Foundation Day
Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated this modern digital feature on Sunday during the celebrations marking the 74th Foundation Day of EPFO. Operating via a verified business profile, the service ensures that subscribers can securely retrieve their current provident fund balance and access their complete digital passbook without encountering common portal glitches. Furthermore, the chat interface provides an immediate breakdown of the last five transactions, capturing both credits and withdrawals recorded in the account.
Streamlined Digital Assistance for Members
The primary objective behind introducing this chat-based mechanism is to extend prompt and transparent services through a familiar platform that employees already use on a daily basis. By bringing core records directly to chat, the initiative eliminates the necessity for workers to visit local provident fund offices for routine inquiries. According to the Ministry of Labour, this channel will also offer technical guidance and personalized procedural support for individuals enrolling under the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana.
Automatic Clearance for Inoperative Accounts
Alongside the messaging integration, the retirement fund body has simplified the retrieval of trapped funds from dormant accounts. Under the newly announced guidelines, members who have up to ₹1,000 lying inside old or inoperative accounts will not need to submit any formal withdrawal claims or documentation.
As long as the identity credentials and linked bank account details of the subscriber are verified, the organisation will automatically execute the settlement process without awaiting a specific request. The accumulated balance will be credited straight into the verified bank account. Data shared by the Labour Ministry reveals that this measure will clear roughly 1 lakh dormant accounts, unlocking an estimated ₹5 crore in unclaimed employee savings.
Managing ₹32 Lakh Crore for Over 8 Crore Active Members
While addressing officials and guests at the foundation event, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya reflected on the organisation's institutional growth over the past 74 years. He highlighted that the body now stewards a massive retirement corpus of ₹32 lakh crore, backed by the trust of more than 8 crore active contributors. The Minister urged administrators to maintain momentum on worker-centric innovations, adopt modern technological workflows, and transition legacy administrative tasks into fully digital, transparent operations.
