Customers of IDBI Bank ran into serious trouble from Sunday afternoon after several essential banking services suddenly stopped working. As complaints piled up on social media, the bank sent out a message explaining that services had been paused temporarily for scheduled maintenance.
Which services were hit
According to the bank, the maintenance window knocked out a wide range of services at once, including ATMs, cash deposit machines, debit and prepaid cards, net banking, mobile banking and UPI. That meant customers could neither withdraw cash from ATMs, nor pay by card, nor carry out any online transactions during the window.
How long the outage was expected to last
The bank said all these services would remain down from 1:45 pm to 3:15 pm and would then resume. It further said normal service would be fully restored by around 4 pm, but at the time this report was filed, the services had still not come back online, leaving customers increasingly frustrated.
Bank apologises to customers
IDBI Bank apologised for the inconvenience caused and urged customers to plan their essential banking needs around this window. The bank has paused services for a few hours during similar scheduled maintenance in the past too, in order to update its systems.
