Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma arrived in Rajnandgaon on a one-day visit, where he attended the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan workshop held at the Pushp Vatika premises before heading to the Circuit House, where he spoke to reporters at length about the Jhiram Ghati case verdict, Raipur's police commissioner system and several other issues.
BJP workers gather for Seva Sankalp Abhiyan workshop
Along with the Deputy CM, a number of BJP office-bearers and workers attended the workshop at Pushp Vatika. Sharma then moved to the Circuit House, where a large number of BJP workers and office-bearers met him. Speaking to journalists during this meeting, he said the party has organised a series of programmes starting from the Prime Minister's birthday, and that various subjects are being taken up on an ongoing basis under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, with more programmes planned ahead.
Demands Congress retract 'Hidma is our role model' remark
Asked about the verdict in the Jhiram Ghati case, the Deputy CM turned his attack on the Congress, saying that people whose role model is Hidma have no right to speak on the issue. He demanded that the Congress leader who has called Hidma "our role model" withdraw that statement first. According to Sharma, such statements have caused damage to Chhattisgarh. He added that the NIA investigation into the Jhiram case has continued for years, several chargesheets have been filed in court, and a verdict has now come on one of them.
Challenges Congress to hand evidence to NIA
Sharma challenged the Congress to hand over to the NIA whatever evidence it claims to have on the Jhiram case, saying the party will not do so because it only wants to do politics in Jhiram's name. He claimed that the actual investigative work in the case has been carried out by the BJP government, while the Congress has limited itself to making allegations.
Calls Raipur's police commissioner system effective
Responding to a question on the police commissionerate system in Raipur, Sharma said it has now been in place for about 6 months, and in that period there has not been a single case that went uninvestigated. He said the capital region of Raipur has directly benefited from the police commissioner system and that law and order in the area has improved as a result.
