Here is something every household that cooks on a gas cylinder needs to act on. The government has made it clear that LPG consumers must complete their e-KYC by 30 June. Miss that window, and the subsidy amount that normally lands in your bank account could run into trouble in the months ahead. That is exactly why millions of consumers are being urged to update their details without waiting.
Why the government is pushing this
The reasoning behind the exercise is straightforward. First, the government wants the subsidy to reach only genuine, eligible beneficiaries. Second, it wants to shut down fake and duplicate connections. The e-KYC check is meant to ensure that one person draws the subsidy on a single connection and that no one misuses government schemes. For a while now, the authorities have been steadily tightening and updating the records of gas connections.
Consumers who have not re-verified their LPG connection details against Aadhaar for a long stretch may find the e-KYC step unavoidable. The view is that the process will make it far easier to flag bogus and double connections, keeping the benefit restricted to consumers who actually qualify for it.
How to do your e-KYC online
To make things easier, gas companies have rolled out an online route as well. All you need to do is open your gas company's app or website on your mobile phone and log in. Once inside, head to the e-KYC or Re-KYC option. From there, a face verification is carried out using your phone's camera. The moment your details match, your identity is confirmed and the process is treated as complete. The best part is that no paper documents are needed, and the whole thing wraps up in just a few minutes.
You can also do it at the agency
For anyone who cannot manage the online process, there is a second option. Such consumers can walk into their nearest gas agency or distributor's office and get the e-KYC done there. Just remember to carry a copy of your Aadhaar card, the documents linked to your gas connection, and your registered mobile number. At the agency, identity may be confirmed through biometric verification. Once the fingerprint or other required step is done, the e-KYC is updated on the spot. This keeps your connection active and ensures there are no hiccups in receiving the subsidy later.
Don't wait for the last day
The single biggest piece of advice for gas consumers is this: finish the task as early as you can instead of waiting for the deadline. Crowds and technical glitches tend to pile up in the final days. Getting your e-KYC done in time spares you every possible headache tied to the subsidy and your gas services.
