Amid rising concerns over deteriorating air quality in metropolitan hubs, Indian entrepreneurs are developing biological solutions that turn away from standard synthetic filters. Spearheading this shift is entrepreneur Sanjay Maurya, the founder behind the clean-tech startup UBreathe. By harnessing living flora, Maurya has created a distinct category of air purifiers that relies on botanical processes rather than conventional mechanical setups. The innovation represents a fresh direction in the indoor air purification market, bringing plant-based natural cleansing directly into urban homes and workspaces.
The Science of Phyto-Remediation and Breathing Roots Technology
During the research phase of the venture, Maurya focused on understanding the precise mechanisms through which greenery neutralizes atmospheric contaminants. The key question driving his study was whether this biological capability could be systematized and deployed inside crowded metro apartments where traditional outdoor tree planting is constrained by space. His investigation zeroed in on phyto-remediation, a natural phenomenon combining plant biology with remedial cleaning.
Under this biological process, specialised micro-organisms colonise the area surrounding the roots of the plant. As ambient pollutants and harmful gases are channeled toward the root zone, these microscopic organisms break down toxic chemicals into safe, balanced compounds through an eco-friendly biological cycle. UBreathe engineered this action into a proprietary framework known as Breathing Roots technology. Through this setup, the bio-filtration power of a single plant is magnified to match the purification capacity of roughly 500 standard plants working simultaneously.
From a Four-Year Bootstrapped Base to Shark Tank Valuation
Building a hardware product rooted in bio-technology required extensive patience and trial. Maurya steered the enterprise as a completely bootstrapped company during its initial 4 years, refining the product without external risk capital. The persistent development eventually delivered financial results, with the firm recording an annual turnover of 2 crore rupees in the previous financial year. Revenue momentum has continued, with projections indicating an expected annual turnover between 3 crore and 4 crore rupees in the ongoing cycle.
The business received broader recognition after appearing on the reality business pitch platform Shark Tank India. The startup secured an investment deal valuing the venture at 12 crore rupees, with prominent investor Namita Thapar backing the company. The funding and exposure provided institutional backing to Maurya's alternative approach to environmental technology.
Product Tiers, Pricing Breakdown, and Commercial Access
To cater to different domestic and professional environments, UBreathe has categorized its purification lineup into three distinct price tiers. The entry-level variant, designed for basic household setups, is priced at 5,000 rupees. The mid-range lineup covers configurations priced between 10,000 rupees and 15,000 rupees. For larger spaces requiring comprehensive bio-filtration coverage, the company offers a top-tier premium variant positioned at around 40,000 rupees.
Consumers looking to install these nature-driven systems can access them through multiple digital storefronts. Alongside the official UBreathe direct-to-consumer website, the devices are listed and sold through major retail marketplaces including Flipkart and Amazon.
