A sharp rally in Reliance Industries shares has triggered a major reshuffling across leveraged equity holdings, pushing the conglomerate to the top position in the domestic margin trading facility segment. Supported by the listing of Jio Platforms, solid quarterly profitability, and aggressive spot market buying, investor participation in the stock has expanded rapidly. Fresh figures from the National Stock Exchange highlight that the company has dislodged HDFC Bank from its long-held top ranking in margin books. This shift follows a massive surge on Monday, November 2, when the counter logged its biggest single-day advance in six years.
Margin Exposure Climbs 60 Percent
Data disclosed by the National Stock Exchange shows that the margin trading facility exposure in Reliance Industries expanded by 60 percent to 4,711 crore rupees, rising from 2,937 crore rupees recorded at the end of October 30. An MTF book represents the aggregate value of equity positions held by retail or institutional clients using leverage provided by stockbrokers. A sharp upward revision in this balance indicates that market participants have actively allocated borrowed capital to take fresh long exposure in the company, expecting the momentum to persist.
HDFC Bank Loses Top Position in Leveraged Holdings
The aggressive surge in leveraged positions has altered the leaderboards among top counters. HDFC Bank, which occupied the leading spot in MTF holdings across recent months, has slipped behind Reliance Industries. Across the broader market, the overall MTF book stands at 1.45 lakh crore rupees, with the top 10 stocks accounting for an aggregate exposure of 19,442 crore rupees. Driven by this recent wave of capital inflows, Reliance Industries alone now represents 24 percent of the total margin exposure concentrated within those top 10 counters.
Heavy Volumes and Multi-Thousand-Crore Turnover
The company remained the most heavily traded counter within the Nifty 500 benchmark across two consecutive trading sessions. On November 2, trading turnover in Reliance shares surpassed 11,000 crore rupees, and continued to see elevated activity on Tuesday with turnover crossing 5,000 crore rupees. Cash market participants also took large long positions home, as delivery buying exceeded 6,000 crore rupees on Monday and remained above 3,000 crore rupees on Tuesday. These massive volumes supported an 11.6 percent jump in the share price during the November 2 trading session.
Technical Turnaround and Market Projections
Market observers note that the rapid change in price structure reflects improving market sentiment. Apurva Sheth, Head of Market Research at SAMCO Securities, stated that Reliance shares have decisively broken out from their extended downward trajectory. He explained that selling exhaustion is visible, giving way to sustained accumulation backed by solid technical setups, elevated trading volumes, and strengthening operational numbers. Sheth suggested that market participants could look to build aggressive long positions if the stock trades comfortably above 1,250 rupees, as that breakout points toward substantial upside potential ahead.
