Following the resignation of popular Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer Divya Mittal from civil services after 13 years of service, public interest has also focused on her husband, Gagandeep Singh Dhillon. Not many know that Gagandeep himself was a senior central civil servant before making a major career transition. He served the Government of India as a 2011 batch Indian Trade Service (ITS) officer before opting for voluntary resignation in 2022 after four years prior to his wife's decision. With both professionals leaving high-profile public administration roles, their shared educational credentials and career trajectory have drawn widespread attention.
Leaving Corporate Careers in London to Return to India
The couple shares remarkably aligned educational achievements. Gagandeep completed his undergraduate engineering studies at IIT Kanpur before earning an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. Similarly, Divya Mittal graduated from IIT Delhi and completed her management degree at IIM Bangalore. After completing their higher education, both secured lucrative corporate roles with top multinational companies abroad. Their paths crossed in London during their corporate assignments, where their professional acquaintance turned into friendship and eventually marriage. Despite having comfortable, high-paying corporate jobs in the United Kingdom, they mutually decided to move back to India and prepare for the rigorous Civil Services Examination.
Distinguished Administrative Careers
Upon returning to India, both pursued UPSC civil services preparation. Gagandeep cleared the exam and joined the Indian Trade Service (ITS) in 2011, handling portfolios related to international business, trade policies, and commercial strategy for central ministries. A year later, Divya Mittal secured All India Rank 68 in the 2012 UPSC examination and was assigned the 2013 batch Uttar Pradesh IAS cadre. Both went on to build strong reputations in their respective bureaucratic roles over the following decade.
Transition to FinTech and Trading in 2022
After serving for over a decade in government, Gagandeep decided to pivot his career in 2022. He resigned from government service to pursue opportunities in financial markets and technology. He founded a venture called Neurocap, where he currently serves as Founder and operates as a professional trader. In addition to managing his trading enterprise, Gagandeep actively shares financial insights and trading education on social media platform X via his handle @neuracap.
