A routine truck ride through Chhattisgarh turned into a spectacle in Korba when onlookers spotted a rare flying snake perched on the moving vehicle. The snake had apparently travelled the entire stretch from Dharamjaigarh to Korba clinging to the truck, and its unexpected appearance was enough to stop people in their tracks.
An Unplanned Hitchhiker
It is believed the snake quietly climbed onto the truck somewhere along the route and stayed put for the rest of the journey, riding along without anyone noticing at first. The moment the truck rolled into Korba and people spotted the reptile clinging to it, word spread fast and a crowd gathered around the vehicle within minutes, everyone curious to get a glimpse of the unusual traveller.
A Rescuer Steps In
As the crowd swelled, snake rescuer Avinash Yadav was called to the spot. He began a careful, safe operation to remove the snake without harming it or endangering the onlookers. According to Yadav, the flying snake ranks among nature's most extraordinary species.
Named for Flight, Built for Gliding
Despite its name, the flying snake does not actually fly like a bird. Instead, it launches itself from the height of a tree and glides through the air over impressive distances. The moment it becomes airborne, it flattens and widens its entire body, a shape that generates the lift needed to stay aloft. It then ripples its body from side to side, using that motion to steer its direction and control its glide.
A Life Spent Mostly Among the Branches
This species spends the bulk of its life up in the trees, relying on its gliding skill to move safely from one tree to the next rather than crawling along the ground. That very ability is what makes the flying snake one of the most remarkable tree-dwelling snakes found anywhere in the world. Its journey from Dharamjaigarh to Korba aboard the truck is reportedly the first time such a creature has turned up in the city, which explains why so many people rushed to catch sight of it.
