Vikas Uniyal, a resident of Dehradun in Uttarakhand, converted a profound personal tragedy into a mission that now protects countless households. His mother, who was deeply religious and spent hours performing daily prayers, gradually fell ill due to the constant inhalation of smoke from conventional incense and dhoop sticks. During the COVID-19 pandemic, her health deteriorated sharply, and medical examinations revealed that she was suffering from stage four brain tumor. With no external risk factors or dietary causes present, doctors probed her daily habits and discovered that breathing in toxic fumes and carbon monoxide from ritual incense over long periods was the primary trigger. Despite relentless medical efforts, Vikas could not save his mother, leaving him shattered but determined.
Training in Kanpur and Founding the Venture
Rather than letting grief overwhelm him, Vikas turned his sorrow into a purpose by researching commercial products thoroughly. His investigation revealed that most market-available incense sticks were laden with hazardous chemicals. To shield others from this hidden danger, he decided to manufacture completely organic and chemical-free alternatives. He traveled to Lucknow, Kanpur, and Dehradun to receive formal training in making natural incense. Armed with these skills, he established a small enterprise named 'Bhavana Dhoop' in loving memory of his mother.
Employment Generation and Local Reach
Starting his venture with just 15 local residents, his core objective went beyond commerce to safeguard public health and offer pure items. Today, the manufacturing plant based in Dehradun produces 'Bhavana Agarbatti and Dhoop', which has established a strong reputation not only locally but across households throughout Uttarakhand. As public awareness regarding wellness grows, consumers are swiftly shifting toward these chemical-free alternatives.
Expanding to Global Markets and Affordable Pricing
The dedication of Vikas Uniyal and his devotion to his mother are yielding remarkable success. The demand for his organic items has transcended national borders, and he now exports his goods to countries including Indonesia, China, and the Netherlands. Keeping everyday consumers in mind, he offers his packets at accessible prices of 30 rupees and 100 rupees, simultaneously ensuring safety and employment for numerous families.
