A severe road accident late Friday night on National Highway 44 in the Morena district of Madhya Pradesh resulted in the death of three women walking home after attending a religious gathering. The victims were hit by a northbound container truck travelling toward Delhi near the Ghirona Hanuman Temple. The tragic crash suddenly transformed a festive atmosphere into widespread grieving across the nearby Harphool Ka Pura village, prompting immediate police intervention to manage the scene.
Sequence of the Highway Collision
The collision occurred within the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines police station. Residents of Harphool Ka Pura village had assembled at the Ghirona Hanuman Temple, located approximately 300 metres from their residential area, to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna. Following the conclusion of the nighttime religious program, groups of devotees began walking back toward their village along the edge of the road. At that moment, the driver of a fast moving container truck lost control of the vehicle. The heavy truck struck the pedestrians on the road margin before veering further off the highway and crashing into multiple temporary roadside shops, causing notable structural damage to the kiosks.
Identity of Victims and Casualty Details
All three victims who succumbed to the collision were residents of Harphool Ka Pura village. Police officials identified the deceased as 50-year-old Kamala Kushwaha (wife of Phool Singh), 50-year-old Kamala Kushwaha (wife of Balkishan), and 28-year-old Poonam Kushwaha (wife of Dharamveer). Among the casualties, Kamala (wife of Balkishan) and Poonam shared a close family relation as mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. While initial reports indicated that all three women died instantly on the spot, later updates clarified that two of the severely injured women were rushed to the district hospital, where they were pronounced dead during treatment.
Law Enforcement Action and Technical Investigation
Promptly alerted by nearby residents, personnel from the Civil Lines police station arrived at the location to secure the crash area and clear traffic flow. Police impounded the heavy container truck and took the driver into custody for questioning. Investigators are evaluating whether a mechanical malfunction, such as steering instability or brake failure, contributed to the loss of control. Technical examinations of the impounded truck are underway to determine the exact cause. Following post-mortem procedures conducted by medical staff, the bodies were released to the grieving family members for final rites.
