Aspirants seeking teaching posts in government schools face an unexpected delay as judicial scrutiny has paused the entire examination schedule. The Bilaspur High Court stayed the written examinations meant for recruiting educators across multiple categories. A division bench presided over by Chief Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra intervened after hearing a challenge regarding the reservation roster earmarked for visually impaired candidates.
Roster Norms Challenged in Court
The controversy emerged shortly after authorities released the official notification inviting direct applications for teacher and assistant teacher vacancies. Shortly following the public notice, candidates flagged discrepancies in how quota benefits were allocated. Fully visually impaired job seekers argued that the notification failed to offer the statutorily mandated representation due to their category, prompting them to seek judicial intervention.
Presenting arguments for the petitioners, senior advocate Rungta contended before the bench that the advertised roster undermines the rights guaranteed to persons with disabilities and falls short of statutory standards. Taking note of these submissions, the bench concluded that the recruitment drive required urgent scrutiny. Consequently, the court stayed the impending written tests and directed authorities to submit a detailed reply explaining their position on the roster format.
Breakdown of Posts and Scheduled Dates
The stalled recruitment exercise seeks to fill an aggregate of 2,292 positions divided into two primary administrative cadres. Within this sanctioned total, the E-cadre accounts for 795 vacancies, while the T-cadre comprises 1497 posts. Under the original timetable, the screening examination for assistant teachers was slated for October 11, with the corresponding exam for teachers scheduled to follow on October 25. Both test events now stand deferred until the court considers the official response.
Official Stance on Judicial Intervention
The stay has triggered political and administrative deliberations regarding the next legal steps. Commenting on the development, Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao stated that the state government will present its response before the court. The administration indicated that it is evaluating the issues highlighted during the hearing to file a comprehensive submission before the bench.
