In the Supalga village of Surguja district, a twenty-nine-year-old post-graduate youth named Ravindra Kumar Rajwada has chosen an unconventional path to self-reliance. After completing his higher education and facing a prolonged lack of employment opportunities, Rajwada decided to stop waiting for a job and instead turned his attention to his vacant family land, initiating commercial tomato cultivation. His bold initiative is now serving as a powerful source of inspiration for other unemployed youths in the region.
Adopting Advanced Agricultural Techniques via Mobile Internet
Rajwada's approach to agriculture is highly modern and scientific, relying heavily on digital resources. Despite having no prior experience in commercial farming, he used his mobile phone to research and gather detailed information about crop management. Utilizing this online knowledge, he successfully implemented drip irrigation and mulching methods on his one-acre plot. The mulching technique helps in conserving soil moisture and controlling weed growth, while drip irrigation ensures optimal water usage, making the entire cultivation process highly efficient and resource-friendly.
Cultivation Timeline and Initial Investment Details
The farming journey began in July when Rajwada started preparing the soil of his vacant field. By August, the young farmer had successfully completed the transplantation of the tomato saplings. Currently, the crop is slightly over a month old, and the plants have entered the flowering stage, indicating a healthy initial growth phase. To ensure a robust harvest, he has applied a balanced mix of fertilizers, including Urea, DAP, Eco fertilizer, and traditional organic cow dung manure. So far, Rajwada has invested more than 50,000 rupees in setting up this agricultural venture. The eventual financial returns and profit margins will depend entirely on the final crop yield and the prevailing market prices during the harvest season.

Through his endeavor, Rajwada aims to send a strong message of independence to other educated, unemployed individuals in rural areas. He strongly believes that instead of sitting idle or waiting indefinitely for government or corporate employment, young people should utilize their vacant ancestral land to create opportunities. While this is his first attempt on a small scale of one acre, Rajwada plans to expand the cultivation area significantly in the future if this trial yield proves to be successful and financially viable.
