A hospitality initiative in the capital of Chhattisgarh is drawing widespread appreciation for transforming the dining experience into a mission of social inclusion. At this eatery, the service team comprises people who cannot speak or hear, yet they effortlessly welcome patrons, record their culinary choices through expressive gestures, and serve freshly prepared meals. The dining venture has steadily evolved into a trusted platform offering financial independence to communities routinely excluded from traditional corporate environments.
Building Dignified Employment for Marginalised Groups
The venture originated in 2013 within the Samta Colony neighbourhood of Raipur. Founder Priyank Patel envisioned the project not merely as a commercial beverage and snack outlet, but as a deliberate response to the persistent employment hurdles faced by disadvantaged groups. The enterprise intentionally recruited hearing-impaired people, members of the transgender community, and individuals coping with intellectual disabilities. What began as a modest community kitchen has matured into a dependable livelihood network that values human capability above limitations.
Sign Gestures and Notepad Slips Replace Spoken Words
The daily floor operations present a distinctive environment of quiet, attentive hospitality. The deaf and mute team members use standard sign expressions to present items and take orders from guests. Visitors frequently reciprocate with intuitive gestures, while those less familiar with signing simply jot down their meal preferences on paper slips. This interactive workflow offers dining patrons a refreshing and grounded experience while allowing the staff members to demonstrate operational excellence with genuine dignity.
Expansion Beyond Raipur into Bhilai and Bastar
Longtime team member Deepak Kumar Janghela, who has been associated with the organisation for 10 to 12 years, stated that the group now operates 4 to 5 dining outlets. The footprint has broadened across Raipur, moving from the foundational Samta Colony site to newer locations in New Rajendra Nagar and VIP Road. The model has expanded beyond the capital, opening branches in the industrial city of Bhilai and further south in Jagdalpur.
Jagdalpur Outlet Fosters Rehabilitation in Conflict Zones
The organisation established a specialised branch named Pandum in Jagdalpur, located in the Bastar region, which carries an even deeper rehabilitative focus. For the past year, this unit has actively employed individuals who surrendered from extremist groups, alongside families affected by regional conflict. By integrating these individuals into commercial food service, the venture offers a peaceful pathway to re-enter civic life. The ongoing initiative demonstrates that respectful opportunities and patient training can empower marginalized citizens to build productive, self-sufficient futures.
