Preparations for the upcoming ODI World Cup have gained significant momentum, leaving the Indian cricket team with limited time to fine-tune combinations ahead of the marquee event. India kicked off this critical phase with a three-match home ODI series against West Indies, signalling the start of a demanding countdown. Ahead of the global tournament, the national squad faces an extremely tight international schedule across all three formats.
Comprehensive Tally of 47 Clashes Across Formats
Before stepping into the World Cup, India will compete in 20 ODIs, 18 T20Is, and 9 Test matches. Along with these bilateral assignments, core players who are likely to make the final World Cup squad will also take part in the Indian Premier League and the Asia Cup. This heavy schedule gives team management extensive opportunities to assess match fitness and lock down player roles.
Home Fixtures and Demanding Away Series
Across September and October, the team was slated to feature in a home assignment consisting of three ODIs and five T20Is, with the 50-over segment now concluded. Following these home games, India will travel for an away tour of New Zealand to participate in five T20Is, five ODIs, and two Tests. In December, India and Sri Lanka will square off in a three-match ODI rubber.
New Year Challenges: Zimbabwe Series and Border-Gavaskar Trophy
India will commence the new calendar year with a three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. That contest will lead directly into the high-stakes Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, which spans from January to March across five Test matches. Once that intense Test series wraps up, the players will pivot their focus toward the IPL and preparations for the Asia Cup.
Potential Away Tours: West Indies and South Africa on the Horizon
Two additional potential foreign tours are also on the radar before the marquee tournament gets underway. India could potentially embark on a tour of West Indies to take part in five T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests. Furthermore, right before the World Cup begins, a potential tour of South Africa is under consideration, featuring a planned six-match ODI contest to finalise tournament preparations.
