Team India made a strong start on the opening day of the second Test against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the visitors put up a solid batting display to finish the day at 300 for 5 in 85 overs.
Devdutt Padikkal and Shubman Gill Lead the Charge
Devdutt Padikkal anchored the Indian innings with a magnificent 117-run knock, frustrating the Sri Lankan bowling attack. Captain Shubman Gill also chipped in with a valuable half-century, scoring 50 runs to steady the ship alongside Padikkal and build a strong foundation for the team.
However, the closing stages of the day brought some setbacks for the visiting side. Ravindra Jadeja lost his wicket late in the day, while wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant had to retire hurt due to an injury, causing some concern for the team management as they prepare for the subsequent days of the Test match.
