Team India batter Ishan Kishan turned heads at a Reserve Bank of India branch in Patna recently, not because of a promotional event, but because he was there for his actual day job. Photos of him wearing an RBI identity card and posing with bank staff quickly went viral on social media, leaving many fans stunned to learn that the star cricketer is also a full-fledged bank employee.
Hired Under the Sports Quota Back in 2017
Ishan Kishan holds the post of Assistant Manager at the Reserve Bank of India. He was appointed to the role in 2017 under the sports quota, at a time when he was just 18 years old and still an emerging name in Indian cricket. Even after joining the bank, he continued to play for RBI's own team, representing it in reputed tournaments such as the DY Patil tournament. These days, with a packed international cricket calendar, he rarely gets the chance to walk into the office. Whenever cricket does give him a window, he heads straight to the Patna branch to put in his hours as a banker.
Staff Line Up for Selfies
Because Ishan is now a recognisable face of the Indian cricket team and shows up at the branch only rarely, his arrival set off a scramble among the staff to click pictures with him. Employees made sure not to miss the rare chance and took turns getting selfies with their star colleague, turning an ordinary working day into something closer to a celebrity visit.
What Does an RBI Assistant Manager Earn?
The Assistant Manager position at the Reserve Bank of India falls under the Grade A category, and the pay that comes with it is fairly attractive. The basic salary for the post ranges between 45000 and 49000 rupees. Once other allowances and benefits are added, the total salary climbs to somewhere between 90000 and 115000 rupees. After the usual deductions, the in-hand salary works out to between 75000 and 90000 rupees. That means Ishan Kishan effectively takes home close to 90000 rupees a month from the RBI, a steady and respectable income that runs alongside his cricketing career.
