A formidable 16-player squad has been officially unveiled by New Zealand to host the Indian national side across a five-fixture T20 assignment starting October 22. Staged across four different host cities over an intense 11-day window, the short-format competition marks the beginning of India's extensive tour, with experienced all-rounder Mitchell Santner appointed as captain.
Heavy Reliance on Pace Firepower
The headline takeaway from the squad announcement is an overwhelmingly pace-heavy roster, featuring as many as seven specialist seamers to exploit home conditions. Seasoned 34-year-old pacer Adam Milne marks his comeback to international duty, joining a menacing fast-bowling unit that features Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, and Nathan Smith.
Continuity remains central to the hosts' broader approach, with 13 squad members carried over from the group that featured in this year's T20 World Cup final against India. The selectors clearly intend to put the visiting batting unit through a demanding examination against persistent bounce and seam movement.
Injury Sidelines Rachin Ravindra
Promising all-rounder Rachin Ravindra will miss out on the opening leg of the tour owing to a lingering shoulder problem. Medical staff remain optimistic about his rehabilitation, anticipating his availability in time for the five-match One-Day International series scheduled to kick off on November 4.
Looking ahead to the high-profile clashes, head coach Rob Walter praised the opposition and noted that taking on India in front of home supporters would be thrilling. Beyond the initial T20 series, the tour will also feature five ODIs and two Test matches.
