American left-arm women fast bowler Tara Norris will be seen playing for the Mumbai Indians team in the upcoming season of the Women's Premier League. She has been inducted into the Mumbai squad from the UP Warriorz team through a trade deal. Tara Norris was earlier bought by UP Warriorz for Rs 10 lakh and she will now join the Mumbai Indians team at this same fee of Rs 10 lakh. The Women's Premier League confirmed in its official press release that Norris secured a spot in the Mumbai Indians team at her previous price.
Historic Milestone in WPL History
Tara Norris made history in the very first auction of the WPL by becoming the first player ever to be sold from an associate nation. She played for the Delhi Capitals team in the inaugural season of the league and also recorded the milestone of becoming the first bowler in league history to take a five-wicket haul in a single match. Her stellar performances paved the way for players from associate nations to gain prominence in franchise cricket.
Strategic Advantage of Five Overseas Players
With Tara Norris joining the team, Mumbai Indians will get the special advantage of being able to field five overseas players in their playing eleven during matches instead of the usual four, since Norris is an associate nation player. Furthermore, Tara Norris is already associated with the Mumbai franchise. This year she played for the MI London team in The Hundred tournament, where she bowled across six matches and picked up four wickets at an impressive economy rate of 7.83.
Rare Trade Deal in League History
This is only the second instance in the history of the WPL when a player has been transferred from one team to another through a trade. Prior to this, Royal Challengers Bengaluru had traded England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge from UP Warriorz right before the Women's Premier League 2025 auction. Such trades remain a unique and infrequent occurrence in the tournament's operational history.
Bolstered Bowling Attack and Upcoming Auction
The arrival of Tara Norris has further strengthened Mumbai Indians' pace bowling department, which already features players like Shabnim Ismail, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amanjot Kaur, and Nicola Carey. In the four seasons of the WPL held so far, Mumbai Indians have clinched the title twice. By including Norris in their squad, Mumbai Indians have completed their quota of overseas players for WPL 2027. Now, the team will enter the auction to be held in Kochi on October 28 with a purse of Rs 90 lakh and still have 6 spots vacant in their squad.
