A tragic incident unfolded in the Lakshmi Park area of Nihal Vihar, Delhi, where a 31-year-old software engineer was allegedly beaten to death by his wife's family members following a domestic quarrel. The victim, identified as Vinay Gupta, was employed with Adobe in Noida. What began as a household dispute on Thursday morning escalated into a violent fatal attack within hours. Local police swiftly responded to the scene, registered a criminal case under relevant legal provisions, and detained four suspects for questioning.
Escalation of Marital Conflict and Arrival of In-Laws
According to family details, Vinay Gupta married his 31-year-old wife, originally a resident of Budh Vihar, approximately three and a half years ago. She is a homemaker, and the couple recently welcomed twin children, a boy and a girl, who are currently four and a half months old. Relatives indicated that the couple had been experiencing minor disagreements over domestic matters for some time. On Thursday morning, another argument broke out between them. Following the altercation, the wife contacted her maternal family, prompting six relatives to arrive at the couple's Nihal Vihar residence around 11:00 AM to discuss the ongoing issues.
Eyewitness Account of the Assault Inside the House
The situation escalated rapidly while discussions were underway. The victim's family stated that Gupta's mother had gone to fetch water and refreshments for the visiting relatives. Upon returning to the room, she witnessed the in-laws violently assaulting her son. She desperately attempted to intervene, shouted for help, and begged the attackers to spare him, but the assault continued unabated. Severely injured, Gupta was rushed to a nearby hospital, where attending doctors pronounced him brought dead. A video shared on X captured the grieving family detailing the ordeal.
Police Investigation and Action Under BNS Sections
Upon receiving notification of the violence, personnel from the Nihal Vihar police station arrived at the scene to initiate an inquiry. A forensic team was dispatched to gather physical evidence from the room where the altercation occurred. Police took custody of the body to complete required legal formalities and post-mortem procedures. Law enforcement authorities registered a case under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Officials confirmed that four identified suspects have been taken into custody while investigations proceed to determine the exact role of each individual involved.
