A disturbing incident of violence and misconduct unfolded at the Barmer Medical College District Hospital late last night, when a group of youths accompanying a patient created a ruckus inside the emergency ward. The intruders not only vandalized hospital property but also subjected the on-duty doctors and nursing staff to abusive behavior. This aggressive episode has left the medical personnel and hospital employees deeply shaken and concerned about their safety. According to reports, one of the furious youths lost his temper, smashed the emergency ward's entrance door, and hurled threats at the healthcare team.
Detailing the sequence of events, on-duty doctor Ramesh Kataria stated that around 3 AM, two to three young men rushed an emergency patient into the ward, claiming the individual was suffering from severe breathing difficulties. The medical staff immediately initiated treatment and ordered all necessary diagnostic tests to evaluate the patient's condition. Dr. Kataria explained that upon completion of the tests, all major vital parameters of the patient were found to be completely normal, indicating no immediate medical emergency or distress.
The confrontation escalated when the companions of the patient demanded that the doctors immediately refer him to another facility. Since the medical evaluations clearly showed a stable condition, the doctors reasoned with the attendants and declined the request for an immediate referral. This refusal triggered extreme agitation in one of the youths, who flew into a rage and began damaging the emergency ward's door. The situation quickly spiraled as they proceeded to verbally abuse and mistreat the attending doctor and the nursing staff on duty.
Upon receiving immediate word of the disruption, authorities were alerted, prompting the accused youths to flee the premises. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Hanuman Ram Chaudhary confirmed that the duty doctor and nursing staff promptly reported the incident. Although police were informed immediately, causing the culprits to escape, the hospital administration has not yet filed a formal written complaint regarding the matter. Nevertheless, the shocking turn of events has once again raised serious concerns regarding the security infrastructure within the district hospital.
Expressing deep dismay, the doctors and nursing staff emphasized that they work round the clock to serve patients, but such hostile incidents severely dent their morale. The medical fraternity has strongly demanded adequate and robust security arrangements inside the hospital complex to prevent recurrence. Furthermore, strict legal action has been sought against those responsible for damaging public property and intimidating healthcare workers on duty.
