A shocking incident in Deeg district of Rajasthan has brought to light serious safety lapses in power management, leaving a young worker critically injured. A 22-year-old electrician, working under the municipal administration to fix street lighting, suffered a severe electrical shock and a subsequent fall from a utility pole after high-voltage current suddenly surged through an 11 KV power line despite an active shutdown.
The Electrician Was Working After Taking a Formal Shutdown
The victim has been identified as Sempi Saini, a 22-year-old resident of Sikari and the son of Jhamman Lal Saini. He has been working privately as an electrician for the municipality for nearly three years. At the time of the incident, he was repairing faulty streetlights along Jhajhar Road. Before ascending the utility pole, he followed proper protocols by securing a formal shutdown of the 11,000 KV power line. Only after confirming the outage did he climb the pole, but power was unexpectedly restored while repair work was still underway.
Fighting for Life at the Hospital
Upon coming into contact with the live current, Sempi was severely burned and plunged directly from the pole onto the road below. The accident left both his hands and abdomen extensively burned. Additionally, the impact from the fall caused severe internal injuries. Local residents and family members rushed him immediately to the local government hospital in Sikari. After initial stabilization, doctors referred him to the Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital Trauma Center in Alwar due to his critical condition, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Family Alleges Gross Negligence by Power Officials
The harrowing accident has triggered outrage among the victim's family and local residents, who have accused electricity department officials and staff of gross negligence. The family questioned how power could be switched back on while a valid shutdown was in place, demanding an impartial inquiry, strict action against those responsible, and immediate financial compensation for the injured youth. Meanwhile, initial observations from the incident also noted that standard safety gear, such as safety belts and gloves, was not fully utilized while ascending the pole.
