A delivery executive in Bhiwadi faced physical assault and harassment after a dispute over a small cash-on-delivery payment, sparking widespread anger among gig workers in the area. The incident took place inside a residential complex within the Khairthal-Tijara district of Rajasthan, highlighting growing concerns over the safety and security of delivery personnel during daily operations.
The Order and the Initial Delay
Mukesh Kumar, who works as a delivery agent for a Zepto hub located near Khanpur Chowk, was assigned an order destined for flat number OAE-172 at Essencia Society. The package was registered under the name Sunita, with the total payable amount set at Rs 345 to be collected in cash upon delivery. According to the statements given by the victim, when he rang the doorbell, the resident accepted the package and went inside, promising to bring the cash immediately.
Escalation After Asking for Dues
After waiting outside the apartment for roughly half an hour without receiving the payment, Mukesh knocked again to collect his money. Instead of clearing the dues, the husband of the customer stepped out and immediately began hurling verbal abuses. When the delivery worker objected to the unprovoked hostility, the situation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation as the resident turned aggressive and started issuing threats.
Torn Shirt and Inaction on Complaints
During the scuffle, the situation worsened as the accused lost his temper and manhandled the delivery agent, tearing his shirt in the process. Mukesh dialed the police immediately to report the assault. He noted that while an automated message confirming the registration of his complaint reached his mobile phone, no police personnel arrived at the scene, leaving him without assistance and without his pending Rs 345 payment.
Colleagues Gather to Protest
News of the altercation spread quickly among delivery workers in the vicinity, prompting a large group of Zepto employees and other gig workers to assemble outside Essencia Society in solidarity. The gathering strongly protested the mistreatment of their peer, drawing several other residents out of their apartments to witness the commotion. Mukesh alleged that even in the presence of the gathered crowd, the accused continued to issue threats. Delivery personnel stressed that such violent outbursts pose severe safety risks for anyone doing field deliveries, and the victim has formally urged local authorities to take strict legal action against the perpetrator while ensuring his payment is recovered.
