A severe incident occurred at the district hospital in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, where a sudden fire broke out in a warmer machine located inside the neonatal intensive care unit, leaving three newborn babies injured. The unfortunate mishap took place during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday at around 2 AM, creating immediate panic across the medical facility.
How the Warmer Fire Started
According to available details, newborn infants are placed inside specialized warmers immediately after birth to maintain normal body temperatures and provide intensive medical monitoring. During the night, the heating unit's filament inside one of the warmers suddenly sparked, triggering a fire. Caught directly in the flames, the three infants placed inside the unit sustained serious burn injuries, sending shockwaves through the hospital staff and attending families.
Emergency Transfer to Jabalpur Medical College
Following the outbreak, doctors and medical personnel rushed to pull the infants out of the affected warmer and administered immediate first aid. Given the severity of their condition, all three newborns were swiftly referred to Jabalpur Medical College for advanced treatment. The babies were transported under the direct supervision of two medical doctors to ensure their safety during transit.
Critical Condition of One Infant
The civil surgeon stated that the transfer was executed to ensure the children received specialized medical intervention. Among the three injured babies, the condition of one infant remains critical, requiring immediate surgical procedures. Because Chhindwara currently lacks a dedicated pediatric surgeon, the hospital administration had to send the child to Jabalpur. Meanwhile, hospital authorities have initiated a detailed inquiry into the technical malfunction and filament sparking that caused the fire.
