Security forces have apprehended an alleged member of the NSCN (IM) in Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap district and seized a firearm, ammunition, and various other items from him, according to police statements released on Monday.
Joint Operation Based on Intelligence
The accused individual was intercepted in the New Paniduria area on Sunday. An official statement noted that the successful operation was carried out by a coordinated team comprising personnel from the Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh Police following specific intelligence inputs.
Identity of the Apprehended Cadre
Authorities identified the detained person as 31-year-old Wangchan Wangsu, who operates as a self-styled Private within the ranks of the NSCN (IM).
Recoveries Made During the Search
During the operation, security personnel recovered a pistol, a magazine, five live rounds of ammunition, Rs 5,450 in cash, and several incriminating documents. In addition to these items, the forces also found three Aadhaar cards belonging to different individuals, a Voter ID card, a compiled list of phone numbers, and a torchlight complete with a charger.
Ongoing Investigation and Regional Security
The Assam Rifles stated that Wangsu along with all the recovered materials has been transferred to the concerned authorities to facilitate further investigation and necessary legal proceedings. This targeted operation took place amid heightened security measures designed to curb the movement and activities of insurgent factions while preserving peace across the region. Officials indicated that the recovered documents and items could provide valuable leads for ongoing inquiries into the network of the NSCN (IM) operating locally. Meanwhile, security personnel continue their thorough investigation to establish the intended purpose of the seized items and to check for any potential connections between the arrested cadre and recent unlawful incidents in the area.
