A major burglary of around Rs 2.5 crore in cash and gold and diamond jewellery has been reported from a businessman's flat in the Riviera Apartments on Mall Road in Delhi's Timarpur area. The theft took place while the businessman, Anuj Gupta, was away in Australia with his family. The incident came to light on Sunday morning when a family member visited the residence and discovered the front door wide open.
Discovery of the Burglary
Businessman Anuj Gupta had left for Australia alongside his family members on September 2. On Sunday morning, when a relative arrived at the Mall Road apartment to inspect the premises, they found the main entrance unbolted. Upon stepping inside, the family member saw that all the internal almirahs had been forced open and cleared of substantial cash reserves as well as valuable gold and diamond ornaments. Law enforcement authorities were immediately alerted to the crime scene.
Two Domestic Workers Under Scanner
Following the notification, police officials rushed to the location to initiate forensic and physical investigations. Preliminary probes and surveillance camera reviews revealed that two domestic workers employed at the residence, identified as Anil and Vicky, had entered the flat on the night of the break-in. Both workers went missing immediately after the incident. Police have mounted a search operation to track down the fleeing suspects using local CCTV footage.
