In response to the intensifying student demonstrations in the national capital, the Delhi Police administration has taken a major decision to suspend all kinds of leaves for its personnel. This comprehensive directive, which applies to police officers across all ranks, will remain in effect until further instructions. The official order indicates that the current law and order situation requires maximum deployment on the ground, making it necessary to restrict ordinary leaves immediately.
According to the directives issued by the police department, routine leaves, including casual leave and earned leave, stand cancelled with immediate effect. Any application for leave will only be considered under highly exceptional and genuine emergency circumstances. Even in such unavoidable cases, the leaves must be thoroughly verified and approved by a competent authority before being granted. Furthermore, all DCsP have been instructed to ensure strict implementation of these guidelines within their respective jurisdictions.
Restrictions on Training and Courses
The administrative crackdown on leaves also extends to professional development and training. Under the new rules, no police personnel will be allowed to participate in or attend any educational or training courses until further notice. Any exception to this rule will require the direct, explicit approval of the Delhi Police Commissioner, who has personally authorized this sweeping order to maintain maximum manpower in the city.
Action Against Violent Elements
While dealing with the protests, the security forces are actively working to identify individuals who have resorted to violence. The police are monitoring the situation closely and compiling details of those who assaulted police personnel during the demonstrations. Law enforcement agencies have made it clear that while they are fully prepared to listen to the legitimate grievances of genuine students, they will take strict legal action against anti-social elements who have infiltrated the protests to create chaos and attack officers on duty.
Protest Dynamics and Political Demands
The security measures come at a time when the protest landscape is witnessing mixed developments. Activist Sonam Wangchuk has ended his hunger strike after the government accepted his demands. However, the student group CJP remains resolute in its agitation, demanding nothing less than the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The group has declared that their sit-in protest will continue unabated until the minister steps down from his post.
Legislative Action Against Paper Leaks
In a parallel development aimed at addressing the core grievances of the protesting students, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a video message addressing the nation's youth. The PM assured students that the government is fully committed to tackling the issue of examination malpractices and is bringing a highly effective, foolproof law to prevent paper leaks. The proposed bill is expected to be discussed in the union cabinet meeting. The Prime Minister stated that the government intends to introduce this anti-paper leak legislation in Parliament next week and will make every effort to ensure its speedy passage to protect the future of students.
