Security in the national capital has been on edge following a fresh bomb threat directed at the historic Red Fort. On Saturday, an unknown caller contacted the Mumbai Police control room to threaten that the monument would be blown up. Mumbai authorities promptly relayed this critical information to the Delhi Police control room, which alerted the North District police to take immediate action. After conducting a comprehensive sweep and investigation of the area, officials declared the threat to be a complete hoax.

Threats targeting the Secretariat

This incident follows a series of similar alarms just a day earlier. On Friday, both the Red Fort and the Delhi Secretariat received bomb threats that triggered massive security operations. According to the Delhi Fire Service, the Secretariat received the warning via email. Officials stated that teams were dispatched to the site following a call at 12:00 PM; however, subsequent searches yielded nothing, confirming that the threat was baseless.

Alerts across city schools

Earlier instances saw two schools in the capital receiving similar threats through email. The Delhi Fire Service confirmed that police forces and the bomb disposal squad were deployed to search both school campuses meticulously. Although security agencies conducted an exhaustive scan of the premises, they confirmed that no suspicious items were discovered, and the situation remained calm.

Developments in the Red Fort blast case

Amidst these ongoing threats, the legal proceedings concerning a fatal car bomb explosion near the Red Fort from last year have gained momentum. Court sources informed that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has submitted a forensic report to the court of Special Judge Pitamber Dutt regarding the blast that claimed 11 lives. The court is now reviewing the report to issue further directives. Meanwhile, the judicial custody of nine accused individuals has been extended until July 13.

On May 14, the NIA filed a 7,500-page chargesheet in connection with the massive IED explosion that occurred on November 10 of the previous year. Last month, the agency filed a supplementary chargesheet against three additional individuals involved in the conspiracy. This list includes a fugitive pediatrician identified as a founding member of a terror module. The total number of people chargesheeted in this case now stands at 13, including the primary accused, Dr. Umar un Nabi, who was driving the explosive-laden vehicle and was killed in the detonation.

What this means for you

Across India: If you encounter or receive a bomb threat at a public venue or school, do not panic; report it immediately to local authorities and avoid spreading unverified rumors.
