Sonam Wangchuk's wife, Gitanjali Angmo, has moved the Delhi High Court seeking an urgent hearing on a plea to have her husband shifted out of Safdarjung Hospital, alleging that his continued stay there amounts to illegal detention and that she has lost faith in the current arrangement.
What the petition seeks
In her plea, Angmo has asked the court for Sonam Wangchuk's immediate discharge from Safdarjung Hospital and his transfer to a private hospital of the family's choice. She has said she has lost faith in the hospital's care and has warned that if anything happens to Sonam while he remains there, questions will be asked. The petition also challenges what she describes as his illegal detention.
Hospital says he is stable but needs monitoring
Safdarjung Hospital has said Sonam Wangchuk is currently stable but requires continuous monitoring to manage potential complications. A senior doctor treating him said administering IV fluids and initiating nutritional support are essential for his health.
Protests at Jantar Mantar, calls for resignation
News of Wangchuk's hospitalisation triggered protests at Jantar Mantar, where Chandrashekhar Azad joined demonstrators. Separately, Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi slammed the police action taken against Wangchuk and demanded the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.
Political reactions
Chirag Paswan said the opposition has lost ground and is now projecting Wangchuk as its face.
The Delhi High Court is yet to hear Gitanjali Angmo's plea for an urgent hearing on Sonam Wangchuk's transfer out of Safdarjung Hospital.
