The Anti Gangster Squad (AGS) of the Delhi Police Crime Branch has achieved a major breakthrough by arresting a 50-year-old man wanted in connection with a sensational double murder that occurred in Rajasthan in 2017. The arrested accused has been identified as Chumma alias Naval Kishore. He had been evading law enforcement agencies for nearly nine years. According to police officials, the accused was residing in the Mohan Garden area of Delhi and is listed as a bad character at PS Mohan Garden.
Background of the 2017 Violent Land Dispute in Bharatpur
The case originates from Uchain Police Station in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. On July 14, 2017, a violent clash broke out between two factions over the possession of a plot of agricultural land. Investigation revealed that approximately 30 to 40 armed individuals forcibly entered the disputed farmland and began plowing down the standing jawar (sorghum) crop using a tractor.
When members of the complainant side arrived at the scene to object to the illegal intrusion, the armed attackers launched an unprovoked assault. The assailants opened indiscriminate fire and physically assaulted the victims with deadly weapons. Two individuals lost their lives on the spot due to gunshot wounds, while several others sustained severe injuries during the clash, causing widespread tension in the locality.
Police Investigation, Court Warrants, and the Arrest Operation
Following the deadly attack, local police registered FIR No. 160/2017 at Uchain Police Station. The charges included murder, attempt to murder, rioting, unlawful assembly equipped with deadly weapons, and causing hurt. As part of the exhaustive investigation, law enforcement authorities subsequently submitted charge sheets and supplementary charge sheets against nearly 35 individuals accused of participating in the crime.
However, Chumma alias Naval Kishore fled the area immediately after the incident and managed to stay hidden for years. Due to his prolonged absence, competent courts issued permanent non-bailable warrants against him. The Anti Gangster Squad of the Crime Branch initiated persistent intelligence gathering, technical surveillance, and physical monitoring. After pin-pointing his hideout in Mohan Garden, police teams conducted a swift raid to apprehend him and execute the pending judicial warrants.
Prior Criminal Record of 12 Cases across Delhi and Rajasthan
Official records disclose that Chumma alias Naval Kishore possesses an extensive criminal background. He is named in at least 12 previous criminal cases registered across various police stations in Delhi and Rajasthan. His criminal record includes charges related to attempt to murder, assault, violations of the Excise Act, and offences under the Arms Act.
Delhi Police emphasized that special operations are ongoing across the national capital to track down habituated offenders, execute pending court warrants, and dismantle criminal networks. The capture of a long-standing fugitive reinforces public safety measures and demonstrates coordination between inter-state law enforcement agencies.
