A massive security operation has been set in motion across the national capital following a protest call by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar. The organization has planned a demonstration demanding the resignation of SIR and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. While the Delhi Police denied official permission for the gathering at Jantar Mantar, CJP leaders announced they would proceed regardless, prompting authorities to turn the New Delhi district into a virtual fortress to preserve public order.
More than 26,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed across the capital to maintain peace and prevent unauthorized assemblies. Strategic intersections, high-security zones, and major arterial routes are being closely guarded. Law enforcement units have positioned themselves to intercept any marching groups or crowds attempting to converge on the prohibited demonstration site in the heart of the city.
Suspension of Internet Services and Severe Commuter Disruptions
As part of widespread preventive measures, internet connectivity has been suspended within a 4-kilometer radius surrounding Jantar Mantar. The restrictions have significantly curtailed communications in the immediate vicinity to prevent crowd coordination and the spread of unverified messaging.
Public transport networks have taken a major hit in response to the security protocols. Entry and exit gates at 45 Delhi Metro stations have been shut down completely, forcing daily commuters to seek alternative travel options. Furthermore, more than 66 inbound trains headed toward Delhi have been cancelled to prevent large influxes of potential demonstrators entering the capital from neighbouring states.
Multi-Tiered Barricades and Border Inspections
Delhi Police has sealed off all entry corridors and approach lanes leading to Jantar Mantar. Authorities have set up seven layers of barricading along key routes to create an impenetrable cordon around the protest venue. Security arrangements also focus heavily on keeping out demonstrators attempting to enter from outside Delhi.
At every border checkpoint and entry corridor, security teams are conducting rigorous inspections of every incoming traveler and vehicle. Commuters arriving in the city are being questioned about the specific purpose of their visit. Drones are being operated along the city borders to provide aerial surveillance, while heavy barricades remain placed across road junctions to stop unauthorized motorcades or gatherings.
Technological Surveillance and Public Announcements
More than 300 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras have been installed across sensitive locations in the New Delhi district. These surveillance cameras are equipped with audio and video recording capabilities to capture real-time evidence and enable rapid tactical responses to any disturbances. Officers on the ground are outfitted with body-worn cameras to stream live updates, while hundreds of videographers have been stationed across key transit points to document public movement.
Public address loudspeakers have been set up at multiple locations across Delhi to broadcast regular updates to citizens. The announcements inform people that permission for today's gathering has been categorically refused. Authorities are appealing directly to the public not to gather for protests, avoid raising slogans, and refrain from damaging any public property.
Preventive Detentions Across 15 Districts
Ahead of the scheduled demonstration, Delhi Police initiated targeted preventive enforcement operations against potential instigators. Between 30 and 40 individuals with past criminal records have been taken into custody. Additionally, police units have mounted physical surveillance outside the residences of several individuals suspected of mobilizing crowds.
Surveillance efforts span all 15 police districts of the capital, focusing on individuals capable of influencing others to join the unsanctioned demonstration. Police units remain on high alert to track, monitor, and neutralize mobilization efforts before crowds can form on the streets.
Organizers Remain Firm as Youth Base Withdraws Support
Despite the extensive security deployment and the lack of official permissions, CJP founder member Abhijeet Dipke has insisted that the protest will move forward. Abhijeet Dipke stated that this is a decisive battle and asserted that the protest will take place regardless of the circumstances, refusing to call off the gathering.
However, the movement appears to face altered ground dynamics compared to past events. While Abhijeet Dipke remains adamant about demonstrating at Jantar Mantar, the GenZ youth demographic that stood at Jantar Mantar two months ago is noticeably absent this time. Young people have stated that CJP is pursuing the political agenda of the opposition, leading them to stay away from the current protest call.
