Police Seize 43 Stolen Handsets From Woman's Residence in Anand Vihar

A 27-year-old woman was arrested in East Delhi after police recovered 43 stolen phones from her home, uncovering a theft ring operating at local transport hubs.

Police in East Delhi have arrested a 27-year-old woman following a raid at her residence in Anand Vihar, recovering 43 mobile phones belonging to assorted brands and models. The haul included a specific handset that had recently been reported stolen by a commuter, triggering the investigation that uncovered the cache.

Investigation Triggered by a Theft Complaint

The operation originated on Thursday when a formal theft complaint regarding a stolen mobile handset was lodged at the Anand Vihar police station. While tracing the missing device, investigators gathered targeted intelligence indicating that the stolen handset was in the possession of a local woman. Informants further indicated that her residence was being used as a storage cache for multiple other stolen devices.

A senior police officer confirmed that the specific device mentioned in Thursday's police complaint was identified among the recovered cache, leading to the immediate arrest of the resident.

Theft Ring Operating at Major Transit Hubs

During preliminary interrogation, the arrested woman revealed that she engaged in theft operations alongside her husband and several other associates. The group systematically targeted commuters at high-density transit junctions, specifically the Anand Vihar bus terminal and Anand Vihar railway station. Officers are presently mapping the broader operational network and conducting searches to locate her husband and other accomplices.

Prior Crime Drive Yielded 390 Handsets

Efforts to crack down on street theft in the capital previously saw a major multi-day initiative in August, when Delhi Police carried out an intensive 72-hour drive against street crime. That special operation focused on snatching, house theft, and auto lifting across different divisions, resulting in the recovery of 390 mobile phones.

Crackdown on the Resale and Receiver Network

The August operation specifically dismantled a supply chain involved in trading and receiving stolen electronics. Officers arrested two suspects linked to the Subhash Place station area, alongside three individuals who operated as receivers purchasing stolen phones for resale. Investigators are examining whether the latest seizure in Anand Vihar ties into similar distribution channels across the city.

Just brought home all those phones from the bus stand and the husband vanished? Seems a bit too convenient, don't think she acted alone.

The Anand Vihar transit hub is notorious for this, with commuters losing phones to crowds every single day. Catching this woman is a good start, but her husband and the rest of the gang need to be rounded up quickly to shut this operation down.

Arjun, I agree the whole gang needs to be caught, but I doubt it stops with just her husband. Usually, there's a bigger buyer sitting behind such operations.

The Anand Vihar bus terminal is always so crowded that pickpocketing happens in a blink. When I was passing through there last month, my metro card was stolen right out of my pocket. Thank god my phone was safe, but finding 43 phones at one house is just wild.

Karan, you're lucky you only lost a metro card, otherwise your phone could've easily ended up in this pile of 43 recovered handsets.
