Investigation Triggered by Theft in Rajinder Nagar

The breakthrough originated from an investigation launched after a white Hyundai Creta parked outside a residence in Old Rajinder Nagar went missing on October 14. An e-FIR regarding the incident was formally registered under Section 303 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Rajinder Nagar police station. Recognizing the gravity of the crime, a dedicated team was constituted under the leadership of Inspector Sandeep Dabas, who heads the AATS for the Central District, working under the direct supervision of ACP Operations Padam Singh Rana.

According to Central District DCP Rohit Rajbir Singh, investigators utilized a combination of local intelligence gathering and technical surveillance to track down the syndicate operating out of Punjab. The gang routinely targeted well-maintained vehicles in the Delhi-NCR area during the cover of night. Once stolen, the perpetrators affixed counterfeit registration number plates onto the vehicles to evade suspicion while transporting them across state lines to Punjab, where the cars were subsequently disposed of.

Acting on actionable intelligence, police executed a raid in Jandiala Guru, Amritsar, on October 16 and successfully apprehended Shamsher. Stealing cars in Delhi and immediately dumping them in Punjab has become way too common. State police forces really need this kind of coordination to stop interstate gangs and keep vehicles safe.

Spot on, Arjun. When I visited Delhi from Washington last time, a friend's Creta was stolen right outside his home in a similar way. Better inter-state police coordination is a huge relief.

Stealing four Cretas without anyone noticing shows how slick they were, driving all the way to Amritsar with fake number plates.

Spot on, Rohan. When my own Dzire was stolen last year, the cops mentioned the exact same trick with fake number plates.
