The legal troubles for Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka continue to mount as they seek legal recourse in the higher judiciary. Following setbacks in the lower court, both leaders have officially approached the Delhi High Court to challenge their ongoing judicial custody. Their legal representatives have urgently petitioned the high court for an immediate hearing on the matter.
Custody Extended by Special Magistrate
Earlier on Monday, a special executive magistrate court in Delhi ordered an extension of the judicial custody for Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka by another two days, setting the next date to 21 October. This extension means the leaders will remain behind bars for a longer duration, prompting their defense team to swiftly move the high court for immediate relief.
Crime Branch Takes Over Investigation
Amid these developments, emerging details indicate that the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police will now take over the investigation into the Jantar Mantar trespassing case. Law enforcement agencies have intensified their scrutiny surrounding various CJP activities, which also includes a separate case registered under the SC/ST Act following a complaint by Delhi Police ACP Vivek Bhagat.
Surrounding Legal Controversies and Protests
The political and legal pressures surrounding CJP and its members have escalated significantly over recent weeks. Petitions were previously filed in the Delhi High Court against planned demonstrations by the outfit at Central Park. Additionally, the detention of youths traveling to join a CJP protest in Itarsi sparked considerable controversy, resulting in a notice issued to the Madhya Pradesh government by the high court. All eyes are now on the Delhi High Court to see how it responds to the plea for urgent relief filed by the detained leaders.
