A major administrative decision has been announced regarding the operation of classes at Jamia Millia Islamia, located in the national capital of New Delhi. Taking into account the prevailing atmosphere and the safety of the student body, the university administration has suspended all offline classes across all courses with immediate effect. Moving forward, academic activities across all departments, centers, and faculties will be conducted exclusively through online modes until further notice is issued by the authorities.
The confirmation of this directive was officially released through a notice issued by the university registrar, Prof. M.D. Mehtab Alam Rizvi. The administration explicitly stated that this step has been taken purely as a precautionary measure to ensure that student safety remains uncompromised while also preventing any disruption to their academic calendar and ongoing studies. Following this announcement, strict directions have been dispatched to all deans, department heads, and faculty members to ensure the necessary operational arrangements are put in place without delay.
The circular issued by Jamia Millia Islamia places special emphasis on the principle that the well-being and security of students stand as the top priority of the institution. In light of the current situation on campus and to steer clear of any untoward incidents, the management decided to replace physical classroom teaching with digital learning mediums. This arrangement ensures that students can participate in their daily lectures from the safety of their homes, thereby avoiding any potential loss of educational progress.
Comprehensive guidelines have been issued for both the teaching staff and the students. The registrar directed all deans of faculties, heads of departments, directors of centers, and respected teachers to immediately initiate academic sessions in accordance with the online timetable. Educators have specifically been instructed to provide necessary study materials and academic support through online channels so that no student experiences difficulty in comprehending their respective subjects.
A critical responsibility has also been handed over to the acting director of Jamia's FTK-Center for Information Technology to ensure the seamless execution of online classes. They have been tasked with uploading the official notification onto the university website promptly. Furthermore, the technical team has been instructed to ready all necessary online class platforms, fix systemic glitches, and ensure robust digital infrastructure to support uninterrupted learning.
According to the administrative order, this digital-only system will remain in effect 'until further orders,' meaning until conditions return to normal and become favorable for physical attendance. The university administration has clarified that all future guidelines, updates, or modifications regarding this situation will be communicated exclusively through official administrative channels. Students have been strongly advised to rely solely on authenticated university notifications and to ensure regular attendance in their newly transitioned online classes.
