Delhi University has released the official academic calendar for the 2026-27 session. According to a notification issued by the registrar's office, new classes for all undergraduate and postgraduate courses will begin on July 28, 2026. The announcement comes at a time when the admission process for new students at the university is in full swing.
Schedule for odd semesters, first, third, fifth and seventh
As per the calendar, regular classes for the first, third, fifth and seventh semesters will start from July 28 itself. Students will then get an autumn break that begins on October 18 and runs until October 25. Classes will resume on October 26 once the break ends. Regular classes will wrap up by November 20, and this period will also be used for practical examinations along with preparation time for theory papers. The main written examinations will be held starting December 4, 2026. A winter break will follow at the end of the year, starting December 25 and continuing until December 31, 2026, after which classes will resume again.
Schedule for even semesters, second, fourth, sixth and eighth
Classes for the second, fourth, sixth and eighth semesters will begin on January 1, 2027. A mid semester break will then run from March 21 to March 28, 2027, with classes resuming on March 29, 2027. Preparation for practical examinations will start from April 30, 2027, and theory classes will end around the same time. Final written examinations for even semester students will begin on May 13. Once the academic session concludes, summer vacation will run from June 3 to July 20, 2027, after which the next academic session will begin.
Change in the current session's summer break
Delhi University has also clarified that to ensure the new academic calendar is implemented smoothly, the summer vacation for the ongoing 2025-26 session has been extended. The break, originally scheduled to end on July 20, will now continue until July 27, 2026. This has been done so that the new session can begin on July 28 without any delay.
