The release of the debut Assamese feature film Dipholu has been officially postponed by its makers, Borluit Productions, in light of the severe flood crisis lingering across Assam. The movie was scheduled to hit cinema halls on August 21. However, the production banner concluded that launching a theatrical venture during a period of widespread distress would be inappropriate, opting instead to delay the premiere until conditions improve.
Humanitarian Crisis Following the Flood Recessions
While floodwaters have begun to subside in various parts of the state, the aftermath of the natural calamity continues to disrupt daily life for thousands of residents. In several remote and worst-hit areas, families are confronting the daunting challenge of starting over. Countless households have lost their residences, agricultural land, livestock, personal belongings, and primary sources of livelihood. As communities work toward rebuilding their lives from scratch, normal routine activities remain significantly disrupted across the region.
Director Nekib Reflects on Ground Realities
The decision to pull back the release was especially poignant for director Nekib, as Dipholu marks his directorial debut in feature filmmaking. Having spent considerable time working on the project, the entire crew was eagerly anticipating bringing the narrative to audiences. Nevertheless, after visiting several flood-affected villages earlier in the month to assess ground realities firsthand, Nekib realized that celebration was out of place. He observed that while water levels might be dropping, the true hardship for displaced families is only beginning as they attempt to restore their lives and properties.
Acknowledging the emotional weight of delaying a debut project, Nekib explained that celebrating a cinematic milestone felt wrong while so many fellow citizens were enduring immense hardship. He emphasized that moviegoers in remote villages and affected districts deserve attention and recovery support above entertainment. "Right now, our thoughts are with the people of Assam and everyone affected by the floods," Nekib stated, adding that the cinema launch can wait for a more suitable occasion.

The production house, Borluit Productions, confirmed that a fresh release date for Dipholu will be determined and communicated in due course once stability returns to the region. Meanwhile, the entire cast and technical crew associated with the film expressed unanimous support for the affected populations, sending hopes for a swift and steady recovery across all impacted districts.
