Actor Rohit Chandel has shared his first social media update since being released on bail in connection with a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. After spending two months in custody, the actor posted a striking photograph of himself standing by the sea. In the image, he is dressed in a traditional white dhoti and a sacred thread (janeyu). He chose a profound Sanskrit caption for his post, writing 'Yato Dharmastato Jaya', which translates to 'Where there is righteousness, there is victory.' This marked his first public communication after securing his release from prison on September 11.
Release from Jail and Family Support
Following the court's decision to grant him bail, the actor was seen in public wearing a pink t-shirt paired with white trousers. He was observed interacting closely with his legal counsel and family members, who had gathered to support him. Expressing their immense relief after a challenging period, Rohit Chandel's family shared a heartfelt statement. They expressed deep gratitude and noted that the family feels a profound sense of relief now that the court has allowed the actor to return home on bail.
Understanding the Arrest and the Charges
The legal troubles for the 29-year-old actor began on July 10, when personnel from the Pant Nagar police station arrested him directly from his residence. Following his apprehension, he was presented before a special POCSO court, which subsequently remanded him to police custody. The investigation was initiated based on a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the family of a 16-year-old girl. According to the police records, the accused continuously contacted the minor girl using his personal phone number as well as other mobile numbers, ignoring her repeated requests to stop.
The situation escalated on July 5, when the actor allegedly confronted the minor near her housing society. The complaint states that he followed her, initiated a heated argument, used abusive language, and physically assaulted her. Consequently, the authorities booked him under several stringent sections of the law. Along with the primary charges under the POCSO Act, the police registered a case against him under Section 78 and Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Documentary Errors That Hampered the Bail Process
During his struggle to secure bail, Rohit Chandel faced several administrative hurdles due to significant errors in his case files. His official profession was incorrectly recorded as a 'businessman' instead of an actor in the initial documents. Furthermore, the chargesheet carried incorrect information regarding his religious identity. Adding to the list of discrepancies, his medical reports erroneously categorized him as married, whereas the actor is actually unmarried. These administrative inconsistencies created additional complications for his legal team during the court proceedings.
