A unique and massive Durga Puja setup is taking shape in Mirzapur, Darbhanga, where organizers are constructing a 1.5-kilometer-long Naglok-themed pandal for devotees. This marks the first time such an extensive serpent-realm pavilion is being built in the area, offering visitors a distinctive spiritual passage that begins directly at the mouth of an enormous serpent sculpture.
Serpent Mouth Entry, Ponds, and Mountain Paths
The journey through the attraction offers an immersive route designed with traditional aesthetics. Devotees stepping through the mouth of the giant snake will travel through its belly along an extensive path spanning nearly 1.5 kilometers. Part of this pilgrimage route crosses directly over a water pond, with the surrounding layout replicating mountain terrains and serene lakes. Visitors will navigate across these scenic water bodies and landscape elements before reaching an imposing entrance gate dedicated to Mansa Devi, surrounded by intricate visual depictions of the mythical serpent world.
Vedic Traditions and Heavy Metal Pipe Architecture
The Mirzapur locality has been recognized since the Vedic period for its historical dedication to Tantric rituals and Vedic forms of worship. Building upon this long-standing ritual heritage, the festival organizers chose the theme of Naglok for the current season. Puja committee treasurer Pranav Kumar Mishra explained that experienced artisans brought from Kolkata are currently assembling the detailed structures. Crafting this sprawling architectural project has already required more than 2,500 bamboo poles, though the bulk of the underlying structural support relies heavily on an intricate framework of metal pipes.
Budget Estimates and High Footfall Projections
The total investment for raising this grand devotional structure stands at approximately Rs 60 to 70 lakh. With finishing touches currently underway, the organizing committee anticipates that hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and visitors will visit the venue across the festival days. Thanks to its scale and intricate thematic execution, the pandal is emerging as one of the most prominent cultural highlights across the entire Mithila region during this festive period.
