In Hindu traditions, the Chaturthi Tithi of both the Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha of every month holds immense spiritual importance. Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, this day is observed with fasting and elaborate rituals. While the Chaturthi falling in the Shukla Paksha is known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, the one occurring during the Krishna Paksha is celebrated as Sankashti Chaturthi. The Sankashti Chaturthi of the auspicious Sawan month is revered as Gajanan Sankashti. Worshipping Lord Ganesha on this sacred occasion is believed to eradicate all difficulties and bring peace, harmony, and prosperity to the household.
Significance of the Gajanan Form of Lord Ganesha
Lord Gajanan is recognized as one of the prominent manifestations among the Ashtavinayak forms of Ganesha. Etymologically, the term Gajanan is derived from two words: 'Gaj', meaning elephant, and 'Anan', which translates to face. Thus, Gajanan signifies the deity with an elephant's face. Fasting on Gajanan Sankashti Chaturthi and performing traditional rituals is said to fulfill all righteous desires of devotees while eliminating hurdles from their personal and professional lives.
