Detailed Step-by-Step Puja Rituals for Sawan Monday
To perform the Sawan Somvar rituals correctly, one should wake up early in the morning, take a bath, and put on clean clothes. On this day, it is highly recommended to wear garments in shades of green, saffron, or white, as these colors are considered auspicious. After dressing, visit your home temple or a nearby Shiva temple to take a solemn vow (sankalp) for the fast.
Begin the worship by offering pure water to the Shivling. Following this initial offering, perform the Abhishek of the Shivling using raw milk, sugar, honey, clarified butter (ghee), and curd. Once the Abhishek with these Panchamrit ingredients is complete, perform a final wash by pouring pure water or sacred Gangajal over the Shivling.
After the cleansing process, apply a tilak of sandalwood paste (chandan) onto the Shivling. Following this, offer fresh Belpatra leaves, ensuring that they are intact and not torn. Along with the leaves, offer white flowers, Bhang, and Dhatura to the deity with deep reverence.
Once the offerings are made, light a traditional clay or brass lamp (diya) and incense sticks (dhoopbatti) near the Shivling. Sit quietly and chant the sacred mantra 'Om Namah Shivay' to focus your mind. Recite the Shiva Chalisa, and conclude the prayer session by performing the Aarti of Lord Shiva. After the Aarti is completed, offer fresh fruits as bhog (sanctified offering) to Lord Shiva to conclude the rituals successfully.
