Gujarat's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested 5 more operatives linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, foiling what officials describe as a large-scale bombing plot. With these latest arrests, the total number of suspected terrorists held in this case has climbed to 13.
Tip-off triggers swift action
The Gujarat ATS had already received intelligence inputs about the activities of Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists operating in the state. Acting on this information without delay, the squad moved in and picked up five terrorists tied to the network.
From 8 detainees to a tally of 13
Before these five arrests, the ATS had already taken 8 suspects into custody. It was during the interrogation of these eight men that investigators learned of five more individuals connected to the same network, leading to their arrest as well. That has pushed the total number of people held in the case to 13.
Arrests made in Siddhpur, North Gujarat
According to sources, all the accused were arrested from Siddhpur and the surrounding areas of North Gujarat. Investigating agencies claim the module was plotting to carry out bomb blasts on a large scale across the country.
Mohammed Ayub and Amin Shera named as masterminds
The investigation has identified Mohammed Ayub and Amin Shera as the alleged masterminds behind the network.
Gun powder ordered, explosives tested 7 to 8 times
Initial investigation has revealed that the accused had procured gun powder and other chemical substances to prepare explosives. They are also said to have tested these explosives by setting off 7 to 8 low-intensity blasts in deserted spots near villages.
ATS still probing how far the conspiracy spreads
