A major development has emerged regarding the DND-Jaipur-Faridabad-Palwal-Sohna expressway corridor, bringing relief to commuters awaiting its opening. The final stretch of the project has been completed, enabling travelers to cover the distance from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Palwal and Sohna in a mere 45 minutes. South Delhi Member of Parliament Ramvir Singh Bidhuri shared this update on Monday.
Trial Runs Reveal Significant Time Reductions
According to details from the project, trial runs during peak traffic hours showed that travel time from Sarai Kale Khan to Sohna and Palwal dropped from the usual three hours down to just 40 to 45 minutes. Sources indicate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the corridor later this year.
Integration with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Network
Bidhuri recently inspected the section alongside Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. During the visit, load testing and other technical evaluations were being conducted by the National Highways Authority of India. Once fully operational, the corridor will link Delhi directly with key Haryana locations including Faridabad, Sohna, and Palwal. The expressway runs from Sarai Kale Khan through Jasola and Jaitpur to Faridabad, connecting further with the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal expressway and the Delhi-Mumbai expressway network.
Dimensions and Direct Connectivity Details
The total length of the DND-Faridabad-Sohna access-controlled highway, designated as National Highway 148A, spans 59 kilometers, alongside a 9-kilometer section of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway running from the DND Flyway to Jaitpur. The DND-Jaitpur segment integrates Delhi directly into the broader expressway network, while adjacent sections provide connectivity to Faridabad and the KMP expressway.
Once operational, the project will serve as the fastest alternative for commuters traveling from Delhi toward Faridabad and beyond. Bidhuri noted that the corridor will provide major relief to the South Delhi region by reducing traffic congestion on Ashok Chowk, Kalindi Kunj, and Mathura Road, while simultaneously cutting down travel time and fuel consumption.
Traffic heading toward Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, and Sohna is expected to shift away from the congested routes of Ring Road and Mathura Road onto the new expressway. According to Bidhuri, travel time from the DND Flyway to Faridabad will drop from the current 30 minutes via the Ashram-Badarpur border section to approximately 20 minutes.
Current operational status indicates that the expressway corridor is fully connected but is functioning under two distinct conditions. The newly opened 9-kilometer Delhi section from the DND Flyway to Jaitpur is strictly operating on a trial basis. This segment is currently toll-free, with a cautious speed limit of 40 kilometers per hour enforced by the National Highways Authority of India during traffic monitoring. Meanwhile, the 50-kilometer Haryana section stretching from Jaitpur to Sohna and the KMP expressway has cleared its trial phase and is fully operational under standard highway regulations and active tolling.
