A high-stakes encounter in Gurugram has shaken the city after police engaged with a group of criminals in an upscale locality. Four shooters belonging to the Deepak Nandal gang were neutralized during a fierce gunfight at Sushant Lok Phase-2, where they were targeting a businessman's residence. The operation left three police personnel injured, all of whom are currently undergoing medical treatment. The exchange of fire broke out around 9 PM on Thursday as police forces intercepted the suspects.
The Backstory of the Vehicle
The black Scorpio SUV used by the assailants has become a focal point of the ongoing investigation. The first owner of the vehicle stepped forward to clarify the chain of ownership. He stated that he had originally purchased the car in 2022 but sold it roughly three years ago to a Gurugram-based car dealer named Babulal. According to his account, the dealer subsequently sold the vehicle to a person named Pawan Bhardwaj from Rohtak, who operates a car rental service. It was from this rental operation that the shooters managed to secure the vehicle for their attack.
Records and Previous Incidents
Because the first owner's mobile number remains linked to the vehicle in the official transport authority records, he continues to receive calls regarding legal issues or incidents involving the car. He revealed that the same black Scorpio was involved in a road accident in Rohtak just 10 to 12 days prior to the shooting. Additionally, he had previously received a complaint call from Chandigarh related to the same vehicle. He maintains that he has no information regarding who was behind the wheel during the earlier accident.
Threats to the Businessman
Investigations into the motive indicate that the businessman targeted at Sushant Lok had been receiving persistent extortion threats from a wanted gangster operating from abroad. When the Crime Branch teams reached the location, the criminals were actively firing upon the businessman's residence using modern weaponry. When ordered by the police to surrender, the gang opened fire at the responding team and attempted to flee the scene.
The Aftermath of the Gunfight
The intense retaliatory fire from the police resulted in all five shooters being struck. Upon arrival at a private super-specialty hospital, doctors declared four of the criminals dead, while the fifth individual is still battling for his life. Two pistols were seized from the site of the encounter. Following the incident, the DCP Crime and DCP East of Gurugram police arrived at the scene, while forensic teams worked late into the night collecting samples and evidence. Police are currently working to verify the identities of the deceased criminals.
