In a significant breakthrough, the Gurugram Police have arrested the primary accused, Kalyan Bainsla, from Dausa in Rajasthan for allegedly ramming his car into a female motorcycle rider on Golf Course Road. Alongside Bainsla, the police also arrested his associate and relative, Lovnish Gujjar, who was reportedly helping him evade the law. Both the accused are residents of Palwal in Haryana. The police are bringing them back from Rajasthan and are preparing to present them in court to secure a two-day custody remand for detailed interrogation. The swift action follows massive public outrage after a video capturing the chilling encounter on the upscale expressway went viral on social media platforms.
The Escape and the Police Hunt
Following the harrowing collision, Kalyan Bainsla did not stop to render aid to the injured biker. Instead, he sped away from the crime scene. In an attempt to mislead investigators, Bainsla abandoned the SUV near Sohna Road and switched off his mobile phone to prevent real-time location tracking by technical surveillance teams. He then met up with his relative, Lovnish Gujjar, and the duo fled towards the neighboring state of Rajasthan in a different car. Taking suo motu cognisance of the viral footage, the Gurugram Police formed multiple specialized units to track down the fleeing suspects.
Investigators painstakingly scrutinized more than a dozen CCTV camera footages along the escape routes, from the exit points of Gurugram to the inter-state borders. Based on these visual feeds and localized intelligence inputs, the police successfully established Kalyan Bainsla's location in Dausa, Rajasthan. A police raid team immediately reached the spot, encircled the area, and apprehended both Kalyan Bainsla and Lovnish Gujjar. They are being escorted back to Gurugram, where they will face intense questioning about the sequence of events leading to the crash and their subsequent flight from justice.
Victim Siya Details Her Traumatic Ordeal
The victim, a female motorcycle rider named Siya, released a detailed statement recounting the terrifying moments and expressing deep concern over the safety of women on the roads of Delhi and Gurugram. Siya described how she felt completely unsafe during her ride. She recalled that while she was navigating the underpass on Golf Course Road, the suspect's car sped past her very closely. The vehicle then slowed down and began reversing slightly, though she did not pay much attention to it initially.
According to Siya, the driver then rolled down his window and gestured towards her with a thumbs-up sign. As the vehicle began steering dangerously close to her motorcycle, she explicitly asked the occupants to keep their distance. The SUV had heavily tinted black windows, making it difficult to see inside. Fearing that the driver might block her way or intentionally crash into her from the front, Siya accelerated to get ahead. She emphasized that the incident was not a simple accident but a deliberate hit-and-run and an attempt to murder, driven by toxic male ego. She questioned how the driver had remained free to justify his actions on media platforms before his arrest, demanding the most stringent punishment possible.
Charges Upgraded to Attempted Murder
Responding to the severe nature of the assault captured on video, the Gurugram Police upgraded the legal provisions in the case. After examining CCTV evidence, investigators at the Sector 56 police station added Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which corresponds to an attempt to murder. This specific legal charge carries a severe penalty of up to 10 years of imprisonment. The Gurugram Police issued a strong warning, stating that any attempts to compromise law and order would be dealt with an iron fist, and they remain committed to ensuring justice for the victim.
A team of three police officers visited Siya's residence to record her formal statement under the newly added sections. To ensure a peaceful environment for the victim, the police requested the media personnel gathered at the house to wait outside. Additionally, the DCP East of Gurugram Police is scheduled to host a press conference at 2:30 PM to present a comprehensive update on the arrests and the progress of the legal proceedings.
Political Demands and Defense Arguments
The incident has also drawn sharp reactions from political figures and statutory bodies. Babita Singh Chauhan, the Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Women's Commission, strongly condemned the attack and demanded immediate, exemplary action. She noted that the allegations made by the victim's family carry substantial weight and that the viral video clearly indicates a targeted attempt to ram the female biker despite clear signals to stop. Chauhan added that the CCTV footages would completely clarify who was chasing whom and how the crash transpired, stressing that the visible registration plate of the vehicle made identification straightforward.
On the political front, Gaurav Gautam, the MLA from Palwal and a Minister of State in the Haryana Government, stated that the law is taking its course without bias. He emphasized that even if the culprit turned out to be related to his family, they would not receive any political shield and would face the full force of the law. He confirmed that while some individuals had approached him regarding the case, he maintained a firm stance that the guilty party must be caught and prosecuted.
In contrast, the defense counsel representing the accused driver has presented a different narrative of the incident. Attorney Naveen Bainsla claimed that the video circulating on social media platforms has been edited and does not depict the complete picture. He argued that both vehicles were travelling at high speeds when the collision occurred. According to the lawyer, his client, Kalyan Bainsla, panicked immediately after the impact, which prompted him to flee the scene out of fear. He stated that whether his client is actually guilty of intentional assault is a matter of ongoing police investigation.
