The Bharatiya Janata Party has officially announced the list of in-charges for its various internal morchas, bringing a significant elevation for Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Bhatia, who hails from Panipat in Haryana. In this latest organizational rejig, Bhatia has been entrusted with the crucial responsibility of heading the SC Morcha as its new in-charge, prompting renewed interest in his political background and career trajectory.
Early Life and Background
Sanjay Bhatia, who is 59 years old, is widely recognized as a close associate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Born on July 29, 1967, he is a resident of Model Town in Panipat. He pursued his education locally, graduating with a BCom degree from IB College in Panipat. His tryst with politics began during his college days when he aligned himself with the RSS student wing, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, laying the groundwork for a long career in public service and party organization.
Organizational Roots and Electoral Milestone
Bhatia’s journey within the party ranks spans decades of dedicated grassroots work. After becoming a Mandal Secretary in 1987, he rose to the position of ABVP District General Secretary in 1989. In 1998, he was appointed as the State General Secretary of the BJP Yuva Morcha. Demonstrating his administrative capabilities within the party apparatus, he also served as the State General Secretary from 2015 until 2021. Prior to his current roles, he served as the Lok Sabha MP from the Karnal constituency, where he registered the largest victory margin in 53 years of electoral history by defeating Congress leader Kuldeep Sharma by a massive margin of 6,56,142 votes during the 2019 general elections.
Transition to Rajya Sabha and Political Stature
Continuing his legislative journey, Bhatia was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana following elections held in March earlier this year, securing his victory after March 16. His organizational importance was further underscored when the BJP appointed him as a National General Secretary on August 17 last month. Known for his deep involvement in party affairs, Bhatia is widely regarded as a close confidant of the former Chief Minister and current Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Furthermore, he is acknowledged as a prominent Punjabi leader in a region where Punjabi voters hold substantial electoral influence, particularly across Karnal and Panipat.
