Abhishek Saroha, a resident of Gohana in Haryana's Sonipat district, has secured the top rank in the Haryana Civil Services (HCS) examination. Competing against a massive pool of 93,000 applicants across the state, he emerged as the leading candidate in the merit list. His journey to the top spot was marked by resilience, as he chose to abandon commercial coaching after an early setback and relied entirely on self-study from home to achieve the coveted first rank in his third attempt.
Navigating Early Hurdles and Leaving Commercial Coaching
Abhishek completed his schooling up to class 12 in Panipat before moving to Delhi to pursue higher studies. It was during his stay in the capital that he started dedicating himself to civil services preparation. His uncle, Tejender Saroha, noted that Abhishek had cleared the written mains examination in both his first and second attempts. However, in both instances, lower scores in the interview stage kept him from securing a spot on the final selection list.
Following his disappointment in the initial attempt, Abhishek made the conscious choice to step away from coaching institutes altogether. Missing out on the final list again in his second attempt severely affected his morale. During this challenging phase, his family stepped in to rebuild his confidence, constantly motivating him not to abandon his goal. Backed by their guidance and driven by personal dedication, Abhishek staged an impressive comeback in his third try.
Household Roots and Routine at Home
After parting ways with classroom coaching, Abhishek returned to Sector 7 in Gohana, maintaining a strict daily study routine at his residence. In the latest examination cycle, he was awarded 42 marks in the interview segment. His commanding performance and high scores in the written mains papers compensated decisively, propelling him to the very top of the statewide merit order.
His father, Jagbir Saroha, serves as the managing director of RK Hindu, a private school in the town, while his mother manages their household. His elder brother, Vinay Saroha, works as a junior engineer with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). The announcement of the results brought celebratory scenes to the household and the local neighbourhood.
Top Scorers and Timeline of the Selection Process
Out of a grand total of 675 marks in the HCS recruitment evaluation, Abhishek Saroha took the lead with 394.50 marks. Kuldeep followed closely in second position with an aggregate score of 392.90, while Isha Kala of Lucknow placed third with 388.60 marks.
The Haryana Public Service Commission had conducted the preliminary test on April 26 to fill 102 administrative vacancies, drawing 93,000 applicants from various regions. The commission announced the results of the subsequent main written examination on September 17. The final phase, involving interviews and personality assessments, was organized at Panchkula from October 3 to October 8, concluding the recruitment process.
