A high-profile manhunt spanning two states concluded on Saturday when the Special Task Force of Haryana Police apprehended a wanted fugitive carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh from Hisar. The individual was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a businessman in Abohar, Punjab, dating back to 2025. Officers searching the suspect recovered an illegal.32 bore pistol along with 3 live cartridges from his possession, bringing an end to his run from law enforcement.
Broad Daylight Shooting of Clothing Showroom Co-Owner
The arrest stems from a brazen murder case that shook the business fraternity in Abohar. The victim, identified as Sanjay Verma, was a co-owner of a local establishment named New Wear Well Gents Tailor. In 2025, assailants ambushed Verma right outside his showroom and shot him dead in broad daylight, triggering widespread panic across the market area.
Following the crime, Punjab authorities registered a formal murder case in Fazilka on July 7, 2025. Given the brazen nature of the attack and the assailant's ability to evade tracking, Punjab Police subsequently declared a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh for concrete leads leading to his arrest.
Precision Ambush Near Hisar Bypass Flyover
Despite remaining off the radar for an extended period, the fugitive's movements were compromised when Haryana STF operatives received confidential intelligence regarding his presence in Hisar. Acting on the verified input, a specialized police unit was mobilized to intercept him before he could relocate again.
The task force laid a tactical trap near the bypass flyover situated on Rajgarh Road in Hisar. The suspect was swiftly intercepted and taken into custody without allowing him any window to pull out his loaded firearm. Police confirmed that the apprehended man belongs to Rajiv Nagar in Punjab, though officials have withheld his specific identity while initial procedural steps proceed.
Interrogation Centers on Syndicate Ties and Arms Supply
Investigators have begun a thorough debriefing of the suspect to map out his activities since the shooting. The STF is examining whether he had established links with wider interstate criminal syndicates or received logistical shelter from local contacts while hiding in Haryana.
Forensic checks are being conducted on the seized firearm to verify if it has been used in other violent crimes. Detectives are also examining financial trails, mobile communications, and potential associates to ascertain whether the Abohar killing was linked to extortion or personal enmity, as well as tracking anyone who assisted him while he was on the run.
Police Reinforce Zero Tolerance for Gang Operations
Highlighting the state's proactive stance against fugitives crossing state borders, Haryana DGP Ajay Singhal said, "The police force is continuously taking effective steps to catch such wanted and absconding accused." Senior commanders reiterated that crackdowns against syndicated crime rings and absconders facing grave criminal charges will remain an uncompromising priority.
