The expert clearly points out that from birth until six months of age, an infant does not require a single drop of water. Throughout this period, babies should rely exclusively on mother's milk, and no water or any other liquid should be introduced. Even if an infant is fed formula milk due to specific circumstances, the correct proportion of water is already mixed while preparing it, meaning there is no need to administer separate water on top of it. Mother's milk naturally consists of about eighty to ninety percent water, which is entirely sufficient to quench a baby's thirst and keep them fully hydrated without any external fluids.
The Hidden Dangers Of Giving Water Too Early
Giving water to infants younger than six months carries serious health risks because their digestive and immune systems remain underdeveloped. External water may contain microscopic bacteria that can easily trigger severe stomach infections, diarrhea, or jaundice in a newborn. Furthermore, early water consumption can lead to a dangerous condition known as water intoxication. Since an infant's kidneys are not fully matured during the first six months, consuming excess water can cause sodium levels in the baby's body to drop rapidly, potentially resulting in seizures.
