The Ultrahuman Ring Pro has finally arrived in my hands, and I am excited to share my initial experience with this wearable. First announced back in February, the device comes accompanied by a feature-packed charging case. This is an upgrade from the previously reviewed Ring Air, and it retails for 479 dollars including the case. While the overall user experience is quite similar to the Ring Air, there are a few specific observations worth highlighting.
Incredible battery performance
I have been wearing the ring for nearly three days, and the battery level is still at 78 percent. By my calculations, it will likely last about 13 days on a single charge at this pace. That is more than double the five to six days I achieved with the Ultrahuman Ring Air, and significantly longer than the one week I typically managed with the Oura Ring 5.
What makes this even more impressive is that I had accidentally been using the ring in Turbo Mode, which samples data more frequently and drains the battery faster. I usually prefer Chill Mode, which provides a more balanced power draw. There is also a Critical Battery Mode for situations when you are desperate for power. Ultrahuman estimates the ring itself can last for 15 days, and when combined with the charging case, the total battery life can reach up to 45 days.
The smart case functionalities
The charging case is the change I was most anticipating. While I have not yet needed to perform any diagnostics or hard resets, the sound effects caught my attention almost immediately. You hear a distinct tone when setting up the ring that reminds me of singing metal sound bowls. Furthermore, the case includes haptic buzz features.
The front lip of the case features an LED indicator light that can glow or pulse in different colors to signal various states. If you happen to misplace the case, you can use the app to trigger a sound to help you find it. I have not yet determined if it is possible to set morning alarms to play through the case rather than the phone, a feature that was rumored to be in development.
Simple and elegant build
While Oura has opted for a smaller profile for its newest ring, Ultrahuman has gone in the opposite direction, creating a solid, metal-bodied ring. It feels thicker than the Air, but what is more interesting is that the interior of the ring is constructed of the same smooth metal as the exterior. Other smart rings often feature a clear epoxy-like layer on the inner side.
The design is simple yet elegant. I appreciate that the new construction includes two break points where the ring can be pried apart in the event of an emergency. As for how the ring performs beyond its aesthetics, that analysis will have to wait for my full review.
